How to Sleep on a Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Once you’ve purchased a Tempur-Pedic mattress, you’ll be counting down the hours until bedtime to try it out. However, to get the most out of your new mattress, you should plan ahead when it comes to sleeping positions.

Best Position

The best position to adopt for sleep is lying flat on your back. It may not seem the most comfortable, particularly if you’re more of a side or stomach sleeper, but this position provides exceptional levels of support. Furthermore, it prevents too much pressure from building up in your lower back, shoulders, and hips.

By sleeping on your back, you ensure that pressure is properly distributed throughout the entirety of your body. Some people find that they snore more when sleeping on their back. If this becomes a problem, consider elevating your head and shoulders slightly with a support pillow.

Memory Foam

If you’ve never used a memory foam mattress before, your first few nights sleeping on a Tempur-Pedic mattress may be slightly uncomfortable. This is to be expected. The memory foam material needs time to adapt to your contours and body weight. In short, you need to allow some time to break the mattress in before you start reaping the benefits. After a few nights exposed to your body heat and weight, the memory foam will begin conforming correctly. You can speed the process along by turning up the thermostat or applying gentle pressure with your hands.

Some people quickly reach for a mattress topper to soften things up. While a memory foam mattress topper might be a good idea down the line, it’s best to avoid using one initially. Let your Tempur-Pedic mattress acclimate to your body before you start adding further layers to your sleep surface.
